What's Temporomandibular Disorder?

Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) means pain and disfunction caused by jaw joint and surrounding muscle and ligament problems,
and it causes restrictions in joint activity due to multiple factors.

Main Causes of Temporomandibular Disorder

  • case 01 -
    Hormones and psychological factors (stress)

When you're stressed, your sympathetic nerve is triggered.
Then, muscles around jaw and neck tense up.

It accompanies insomnia, furrowed brow, and teeth clenching while sleeping.
In such cases, problems may be found in other areas, too.

  • case 02 -
    Structural factors

The second cervical vertebra (C2) is the balance axis of the jaw joint movement.

If you had turtle neck syndrome or straight neck syndrome for a long time,
jaw joint moves backward, tilting axis, compressing the jaw joint disc,
    and causing muscle spasms.

  • case 03 -
    Poor chewing habits

enjoy tough or hard food, opening mouth too wide,
and clenching teeth is one of the causes of Temporomandibular Disorder.
